Mike’s formative years belonged to his VHS movie collection. Raised in Somerset; he soon realized a life as a cider farmer or professional Jenga player was unrealistic. So, inspired by the crash zooms and freeze frames synonymous with 80s movies, Mike wanted to tell stories.
With a knack for visual storytelling, Mike began his career as a cinematographer, having studied at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He went on to shoot two features films as well as a powerful documentary on location within the exclusion zone in Chernobyl, Ukraine.
Mike’s feature debut as writer/director was British indie film Pleasure Island, (Metrodome), described as part thriller, part western, part portrait of faded seaside glamour. Mike has directed award-winning music videos and short films as well as advertising campaigns for Renault, Garnier, Microsoft and TheTerritorial Army, which won silver at the Campaign BIG Awards.
Mike regularly works on his Jenga skills – a pipe dream he’s yet to give up on.
